Summary

GDI are the "Good guys" of the Tiberium Universe. Their mission is save the world from the threat of Tiberium and to utterly destroy the Brotherhood of Nod and its Fanatical leader. Originally backed by the UN and many private and corporate sponsors, GDI has cutting edge technology and lots of resources. By 2047 GDI is the largest Military and Political State on the Earth, defending the Blue Zones known to be the last true safe havens free of Tiberium from Nod attacks. As of 2047 GDI has two known sub factions within its forces , ZOCOM and the Steel Talons.

History

The United Nations Global Defense Initiave (UNGDI or more commonly GDI) was founded in 1995 to stop the rapid growing threat form the Brotherhood of Nod and to counter the spread of Tiberium across the globe. Minor Skirmishes between GDI and Nod forces resulted in the outbreak of the First Tiberium War which takes place during the events of Command and Conquer. Nod propaganda potrayed GDI as an oprresive regime dedicated to protecting only the rich and massacring the poor. Outcry from the public forced GDI to retreat from key areas allowing Nod to take control of those regions.
